Furniture Care & Maintenance Guide

At Porters Gray, we manufacture and source the highest quality furnishings for both residential and non-residential settings—including hotels, restaurants, and select office environments. With proper care, your investment will retain its beauty and function for years to come.

GENERAL GUIDELINES- furniture care & maintenance guide:

The longevity of your furniture depends on how and where it is used. Please follow these essential tips:

Placement: Avoid positioning furniture against external walls, which can cause moisture build-up. Similarly, keep pieces away from radiators or heat sources to prevent scorching or discolouration.

Usage: Refrain from sitting on cushion edges or arms, as this can strain seams and distort padding or fabric. Sharp objects—such as buckles, rings, or pet claws—can scratch or tear upholstery.

Sunlight: Protect furniture from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Rotate reversible cushions regularly.

Cleaning: Vacuum cushions weekly using a low-suction setting to remove dust and preserve fabric integrity.

UPHOLSTERY & FABRIC CARE

General Cleaning  – furniture care & maintenance guide:

We recommend professional dry cleaning for both fixed and loose cushion covers. Before using any cleaning products or water, consult our sales team for fabric-specific advice.

Colour Fastness & Fading

No fabric is entirely colourfast. Brightly dyed textiles are especially prone to fading.

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight—particularly in south-facing rooms—as UV rays can degrade fibres, making them brittle and prone to tearing.

Moisture

Keep furniture away from damp environments such as bathrooms or basements. High humidity can accelerate deterioration.

Pilling

Pilling is a natural result of wear and environmental factors. It is not a defect and can be removed using a battery-operated fabric shaver.

Velvet

Velvet is a natural, pressure-sensitive fabric.

  • Minor marks can be lifted with a soft brush or gentle steaming.
  • ome crushing is inherent to natural velvet and may not be reversible.

WEAVER GREEN TEXTILES

Spot Cleaning

Most Weaver Green rugs, cushions, and throws require minimal maintenance.

  • For small stains, use warm water with a mild detergent.
  • For tougher stains, add a dash of white vinegar.
  • Always vacuum or shake out debris before cleaning.
  • Blot stains gently from the edges inward—never scrub.

Machine Washing

  • All rugs, throws, and cushion covers are machine washable at 40°C with non-bio detergent.
